Inspection scope

Inspection access, appliance type, and system condition determine what can be examined.

Chimney exterior

Visible masonry, mortar joints, chimney caps, crowns, flashing and accessible roofline components.

Fireplace and firebox

Accessible firebox surfaces, damper operation, hearth and visible clearances.

Flue and venting

Visible portions of flue liners, connectors, venting and evidence of deposits or damage, subject to access.

Clear reporting

Photographs, descriptions of observed conditions and recommendations for specialist follow-up when warranted.

Our inspection process

We document what is visible and explain when a more advanced inspection or repair assessment is appropriate.

1. Review

Confirm the appliance and chimney type, inspection purpose, and available access.

2. Observe

Inspect readily accessible components and photograph significant visible conditions.

3. Report

Provide findings and recommend a qualified chimney professional for further evaluation when needed.

Important limitations

A visual inspection does not include sweeping, dismantling, concealed-condition testing, or certification that a fireplace is safe to operate. Internal camera scanning and higher-level inspections must be separately confirmed before scheduling.
